چکیده

We compare the peak optical luminosity with orbital period for a sample of 22 stellar-mass black hole candidates good measurements both quantities. find that absolute magnitude outbursts follows linear relation $M_{V,peak}=3.48 (\pm 0.85)-3.89 0.91) {\rm log}P_{orb}$, which corresponds to $L_V \propto P_{orb}^{1.56\pm 0.36}$ power law relation. Excluding V4641 Sgr is strong outlier and not likely have produced by standard disc instability model, in addition BW Cir V821 Ara -- highly uncertain distances; new correlation 19 sources found be $M_{V,peak}= 3.01\;(\pm 0.93)-3.21\;(\pm 1.04){\rm P_{orb}^{1.28 \pm 0.42}$. This an analogous relationship "Warner relation" between cataclysmic variables. discuss implications these results finding X-ray binaries other galaxies our own Galaxy Large Synoptic Survey Telescope future large time domain surveys.

Stellar-mass black holes and ultraluminous x-ray sources.

We review the likely population, observational properties, and broad implications of stellar-mass black holes and ultraluminous x-ray sources. We focus on the clear empirical rules connecting accretion and outflow that have been established for stellar-mass black holes in binary systems in the past decade and a half. These patterns of behavior are probably the keys that will allow us to underst...

Neutron Stars and Black Holes in X-ray Binaries

Galactic accretion driven stellar X-ray sources can be divided into groups in different ways. An important division, which covers almost all known X-ray binaries, can be made according to the mass of the donor star: high-mass X-ray binaries and low-mass X-ray binaries. Another distinction (partially overlapping with the previous one) can be made on the basis of the nature of the accreting objec...

The Formation of High-mass Black Holes in Low-mass X-ray Binaries

In this note we suggest that high-mass black holes; i.e., black holes of several solar masses, can be formed in binaries with low-mass main-sequence companions, provided that the hydrogen envelope of the massive star is removed in common envelope evolution which begins only after the massive star has finished He core burning. That is, the massive star is in the supergiant stage, which lasts onl...

Orbital period–Hα correlation in Be star/X-ray binaries?

Reig, Fabregat & Coe (1997) plotted the equivalent width of Hα emission against the orbital period for several Be star/X-ray binary systems, and find a correlation. If instead of the equivalent width, which is a relative quantity, the luminosity of Hα emission, which is an absolute quantity, is used the correlation is not found.

Spin-Up of Low Luminosity Low Mass X-ray Binaries

We examine the spin-up of low luminosity, low mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) to millisecond pulsars (MSPs). In the conventional spin-up model of the Ghosh & Lamb type, where the stellar magnetic field interacts with the Keplerian accretion disk, MSPs could be produced from LMXBs if magnetic field B∗ <∼ 10 8(Ṁ/1016g/s)1/2G, where Ṁ is the mass accretion rate. However, for Ṁ < Ṁc ∼ 10 g/s accretion ...
